Biedermeier Cherry Plant Stand

Biedermeier cherry veneer plant stand, or flower table, the round top with removable tin liner; the three cabriole legs joined by a round shelf.

Flower tables (blumentisch), as they were called, were a furniture accessory of the wealthy, as seen in the accompanying drawing of a woman at her piano.¹ Painted c. 1840, the opulent room with its decorated ceiling, stenciled walls and high style furnishings, shows a similar plant stand in front of a window.

The tin liner is possibly original. There are areas of rust and calcification, as seen in the photos. Also, the legs have warped and shifted over the years and have a few repairs, which are visible in the photos. The table is sturdy and stands level.
