Pair of Chinese Export Reverse Glass Portraits, c. 1800

Pair of Chinese Export reverse glass portraits, " Vice-Admiral Sir Peter Warren and (probably) Susannah Delancey Warren".

The portrait of Vice-Admiral Sir Peter Warren (1703-1752) is copied from the original by Thomas Hudson, painted c.1751 and now hanging in the National Portrait Gallery, London. A mezzotint of the Hudson portrait was made by John Faber in 1751-1756 and sent to China to be copied.

It is presumed the woman is Warren's wife, Susannah Delancey (m. 1731), but corroborating evidence has not been found.
