The tulips on this charming Biedermeier cup and saucer appear to be a variety called Don Miguel, which appears in Robert Sweet's "The Florist's Guide and Cultivator's Directory", published in London between 1827-1829, plate 19. See photo. The Directory illustrates several varieties of black and yellow tulips, all now extinct.
