Condition: This painting is in 'as found' condition. Note the vertical ridges in the canvas, visible in the last photo, shot in strong raking light. Also, at he top and bottom there is a visible 1/8" margin that reveals the board onto which the canvas is glued.

For now, the artist of this delightful mid-century genre scene remains unidentified. It depicts a street vendor in a European city and, with a name like Burkart, it might well be German or Austrian.
