The overglaze "L S" to the bottom of each piece is probably the mark of an independent painter, called a hausmaler. In Germany, from the 17th through the 19th centuries, these artisans bought undecorated ceramics and painted them in their own studios. The quality of hausmalerei was often first rate, as seen here with these detailed renderings of Munich and Nymphenburg, probably copied from engravings.
